Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
OSHC is the insurance that supports international students to cover the costs of medical and hospital care that they may require while in Australia. Some part of OSHC will be covering pharmaceuticals and ambulance services. All the students including their spouse and children under 18 has to take OSHC. Any type of visa it may be either student visa or bridging visa or was immediately before being granted the bridging visa, the holder of a student visa has to apply for OSHC.
The applicant who has applied for OSHE will be entitled for few of the benefits below.

Free treatment at public hospitals

Will cover the Prescribed medicine under the Pharmaceuticals Benefits Scheme (PBS)

Public hospital shared ward accommodation

Private hospital shared ward accommodation (only for hospitals that have contractual arrangements with the overseas student’s health insurer)
However, you would NOT be entitled to :

Medicine not Prescribed under the PBS;

Any kind of treatment arranged before migrating to Australia;

Any kind of treatment or Accommodation in Private Hospital will not be covered (if hospitals do not have contractual arrangements with the overseas student’s health insurer)
